Spring Activities 2017 & 2018

Hang onto your hats as we blast through past highlights from our spring adventures in 2017 and 2018. It is so much fun to look back through the highlights reel of our family. The saying that 'the days are long but the years are short' is illustrated well below.

Hamilton: An American Musical in Chicago
Truth be told, Jackie and Amy took me to Chicago to begin my 40 adventures before I turned 40 in February 2017, but it was close enough to spring to highlight here. It was such a transformative musical and amazing experience with dear friends.

Moira's First Communion 2017: Moira worked hard all year long to prepare for her First Communion at St. Pius. Eucharist derives from the Greek word for Thanksgiving, and we were certainly grateful to be able to watch Moira go through this experience. Lots of family and friends came to support Moira, and she loved the party following her First Communion the most! I will never forget how beautiful she looked in her dress and how excited she was to wear the locket that Alan and I gave to her.

Mira Awards 2017 and 2018: This is an annual event in Indy that is hosted by TechPoint and celebrates "the best in tech in Indy." I am fortunate enough to judge the "Educator of the Year" category, and as a result, I receive two complimentary tickets to the shindig. I love taking Kate as my date (it is not really Alan's thing) where we schmooze and enjoy fancy drinks and dinner amongst Indy's tech elite.

Superintendent's Awards and Last Day of School 2017: It is hard to believe that Moira and Hannah were finishing up 2nd and Kindergarten in 2017! Moira was proud to receive a Superintendent's award and sad to say goodbye to Mrs. Miller. Hannah's teacher, Mrs. Catt, was absolutely amazing, and the girls were ready for summer break to begin as school wrapped up!

Mother's Day 2017: We had a lovely time biking through the Fairbanks 100 Acres Park at the Indianapolis Art Museum, now known as Newfields. I remember these moments so clearly. Moira was still on training wheels meandering her way through the trails, but she loved being on her bike. Hannah was in a trailer at the time, I believe. I remember stopping at a sleek, modern facility where we could get out of the heat for a minute, and that's where Moira and Grandpa had a deep conversation while Hannah rested with Grandma. Afterwards, we played on the giant tree swings and headed back to Grandma's house for dinner and more fun with the twins.

More Fun in May 2017
May is such an exhausting month as we race towards the end of school and summer! It looks like we were pretty busy and managed to find time to hang out at the Zoo and its splash pad. We also headed over to Bankers Life Fieldhouse to celebrate the opening of Project Indy: Mayor Hogsett's Summer Youth Employment program. Hannah's sunglasses art from school makes me laugh out loud too, and then there were a variety of activities that the girls engaged in as spring turned to summer including: dance recitals, gardening, watch Shrek! with Hadley and his family from California, and swim team! Whew, as I always say, never a dull moment.

Cincinnati Road Trip 2017: For Memorial Day weekend we went to Cincinnati to see Katy and her family. The girls loved staying at the Hampton Inn (free breakfast extravaganza with sugary cereals and waffles galore), hanging with Ruby at their local pool, and living it up at Kings Island and the waterpark with the Huffman family. I loved watching the girls play with Ruby and exploring Kings Island for the first time!

2018 Spring Activities: The girls were busy as ever in 2018 as well. The montage of photos below illustrate activities ranging from kickball at St. Pius and soccer with Glendale Soccer to the end of the school year with Ms. Adams (Hannah in 1st grade) and Mrs. Odle (Moira in third grade). Both of them received Superintendent's Awards.

2018 Road Trips to Pinehurst, North Carolina and St. Louis, Missouri: The girls had a fantastic time at Lindsey Rogers' wedding, particularly because they were able to play with the twins and see lots and lots of family from all over the country. And then it is always good to see our family from St. Louis. We celebrated Connor's First Communion and both Hannah and Connor's birthdays.

2018 Adventures continued: Hannah had a great time at her ballet performance, Moira celebrated the end of the school year with field day with friends, there was more soccer, festivals, celebrating Mother's Day at Tina's Traditional Tea Room, horseback riding with the Girl Scouts, and more! While I was in Boston for a meeting, the girls had a fabulous time at Eagle Creek State Park and at a unique Newfields Art Museum exhibit with Grandma, Grandpa, and Linda!

And that's a wrap for the 2017-2018 edition of spring and early summer activities in the Mackintosh household. Stay tuned for a recap of Easter and Hannah's birthday parties from the last couple of years!
