Celebrating Hannah's 4th Birthday Part 1
Hannah's 4th birthday celebration was a hodgepodge of activities. This year, her birthday fell during a very busy week that included her preschool end-of-year celebration, her dad becoming a dual citizen, and a weekend road trip to St. Louis. We decided to celebrate just with our family and not throw a big party into the mix.
So, we began her series of mini-birthday celebrations on May 5th, election day, which Kate and I both have off. Thus, we deemed it a girls day. We started off the morning with a pre-birthday gift (strategically given so that we could complete a science project for her preschool) of Hannah's first science kit, which she loved, by the way! We did the "color burst" experiment, and she kept saying over and over again how "beautiful" the colors were. She was amazed. By the time I remembered to video her reactions, she and her sister had moved on to other areas of discovery, but the video illustrates well their excitement and their relationship.
We then proceeded to go to the very unlikely locations of the dermatologist for Grandma and the voting locations for both me and Aunt Kate. We did manage to squeeze in a nice breakfast at Ruth's Cafe, which was fantastic. Throughout the morning, Hannah did a great job of waiting patiently for us to finish our errands before we headed to the canal for a paddleboat ride.
We had a great time at the Canal. It was quiet because it was a Tuesday, but the weather was perfect, and Hannah loved the boat ride on the "lake." She was especially fascinated by the ducks and kept saying "quack, quack" whenever we would approach a duck in a very realistic fashion. Another highlight was the fact that we had a frozen lemonade for the ride. Special shout-outs go to Aunt Kate for pedaling hard the entire time and to Grandma for maneuvering a front seat to back seat switcheroo on the water without falling in!
After the adventure at the canal, we picked up Moira from school and went to the nail shop to have a mini pampering session. As you can see, the girls enjoyed choosing their colors and having their toenails and fingernails painted. We finished up our girls day by going to Jockamo's in Irvington for pizza, and I caught a couple of funny pictures of Hannah and Moira at the end of a very long day.
The next day, May 6th, was Hannah's birthday. We started the day off with an "H" pancake birthday breakfast and our "little family" singing Happy Birthday to Hannah. Please note how serious she is in the video and in her photo on the porch below. It is a trademark of Hannah's! After breakfast, she went off to school at the Children's Museum where they celebrated her birthday by creating a birthday book from all of her friends and letting her sit in the birthday chair (the photo below is froma different time she was on the throne, but you get the idea)! When Hannah and Moira got home from school, we all went to Cold Stone Creamery for some ice cream, and Hannah opened one more gift while there.
It is a bit of an understatement to say that it was an eventful two days for Hannah. I'll be back with another blog soon on how we celebrated the rest of Hannah's birthday with our extended family in St. Louis and in Indianapolis.
