Busy School Days
As Moira's Kindergarten year and Hannah's first year at the Children's Museum Preschool began to come to a close, the number of activities we engaged in seemed to increase substantially!
Moira did a school project on forest animals that was tied to her field trip to Holliday Park in Indianapolis. I will never forget Moira practicing her presentation and saying to many of us "Can I get a woof, woof?" in reference to her favorite fact about porcupines. The factoid is that babies are called pups, which is the same way we refer to dogs' babies. She's so creative, and it's fun to see all of the connections happen for her.
Our trip to Holliday Park with her kindergarten class was also great fun and great learning. Highlights included the hike down the rock garden and having our guide point out different types of creature habitats, plants (Moira's favorite was the underwear plant--otherwise known as Dutchman's breeches, .a wildflower in Indiana), insects, and more. The guide also showed us a turtle in the classroom taught us how to make a sound like a squirrel, which Moira has been sharing with everyone ever since! After our hike, we had a nice lunch with her class and played on the playground. It was a great day.
We also went to Moira's school for Fine Arts night, where Moira shared with us some of the great work she has been doing in her classroom and in her "specials" classes. This was the first time I learned that she would be bringing home a book that she had been working on all year about her kindergarten experience. It's such a special keepsake!
Meanwhile, Hannah has been attending ballet classes at Broad Ripple Park. It's very low-key, and she seems to be learning a lot! Below are a couple of videos and pictures of her doing her favorite moves. The teacher is really good with the kiddos--my favorite part is that they are learning the French terms for their moves, and the teacher seems to work with each one of them consistently. She also made each one of them "perform" individually, which is a really good idea!
More to come soon on Hannah's birthday festivities and the end-of-year celebration at the Children's Museum!
