Virginia Beach and more!
Day 2 of our mini-spring break to Virginia was a quieter day. The grandmas took the girls to the movie theater to see the new Cinderella movie, and Alan and I headed to Yorktown with Uncle Joe to learn more about Yorktown and its role in the Revolutionary War. Later on in the day, I even made it to the outlet shops in Williamsburg, which was great fun (for me) as well.
On our last day of our mini-spring break, we started off with the girls helping Grandma Jean to make two delicious giant pancakes for breakfast. They're so intense when they're helping to cook, and I couldn't help including these action shots.
After breakfast, we headed to Virginia Beach, which is about an hour away from Williamsburg. I think that Alan misses being near an ocean, so whenever we have an opportunity, we find a beach (regardless of the weather). We started off at a lovely playground at the very end of a long and expansive Virginia Beach.
While they were playing (and digging holes in the sand as you can see below), the Grandmas and I decided to figure out how to rent a surrey bike so that we could bike along the boardwalk. Virginia Beach was beautiful and not that crowded (since it was a cool spring day), so we wanted to take full advantage of the opportunity! We rode for a bit on the boardwalk and then stopped for ice cream. The girls also managed to play on another playground on the beach before we headed back to the car.
We then made our way over to my cousin Kristen's house, where we picked up Mackenzie and Ryan after school. Ryan showed us his excellent drumming techniques, and Mackenzie had fun playing school with Moira. Hannah loved playing the drums! It was very cute.
Last but not least, when we finally returned to Aunt Jean's for dinner (what a long day!), we had an Easter Egg hunt with the cousins at the playground in her neighborhood. Neither Moira nor Hannah have fully caught on to the competitive nature of an Easter Egg hunt, but they had a great time finding a few easter eggs with their cousins. Hannah had a head start because she is still so little. It was very cute, as you can see in the video below. Their favorite part was undoubtedly counting up the change and chocolate they accumulated after the hunt was over!
All in all, we had a fantastic time in Virginia and were sad to leave to go home. Aunt Jean and Uncle Joe are great hosts, and playing with all of my cousin's kids was great fun too. I'm sure we'll be back soon!
