Halloween 2013
We have finally made it the end of October and early November. Slowly but surely, this blog will make its way to 2014!
This year's Halloween festivities consisted of a trip to ZooBoo, the Children's Museum Haunted House, a neighborhood party, and trick-or-treating at the Charltons. We did all of these activities over the course of three or four days. It was busy but fun.
Moira was determined to be a mermaid this year--she was influenced by Nan and Grandad's visit, which included the gift of two very cute little mermaid dolls. She also received a couple of books about mermaids that intrigued her as well. So, it only made sense to have Hannah be a fish. Hannah wasn't a big fan of her costume, though (she didn't like how it fastened), so she oscillated between being a fish and a bumblebee. Luckily, we had two costumes for her so that she could choose! Most of the photos of Hannah are when she was a fish--I think we must have failed to get a photo of her as a bumblebee.
The girls are very into posing behind signs right now. We took a total of four different photos behind different ZooBoos signs, but this one was the best.
ZooBoo was incredibly busy and the weather was pretty cool. Moira was not interested, though, in wearing a jacket. So, we just walked all around the plains area of the zoo collecting candy and checking out all of the big animals, and we tried to keep moving to keep her warm.
There was also a fun obstacle course and a tent full of games like pumpkin bowling, bounce houses, and chalkboards where the children could draw freely. The girls had a great time at ZooBoo.
A few days later, Alan took the girls through the Children's Museum's Haunted House. He went with the lights on, and he said that Moira thought it was brilliant. Hannah was apparently very scared. I love Moira's photo with the zombie astronaut because she is clearly excited and not scared at all. Moira and Hannah were both pleased with the fact that they received squishy spiders at the end of the Haunted House.
Halloween was postponed this year to November 1st because of some dramatically rainy and windy weather on Halloween night. On Friday, the girls began their evening by walking over to a neighbor's house who had invited a few neighbors to have pizza and a costume contest. It was great to have a chance to get to know our new neighbors.
When it was time to begin trick-or-treating, we walked back to our house (after trick-or-treating at a few houses in our neighborhood) and then went over to the Charltons' house. They've hosted us every year for Halloween, and Moira really wanted to trick-or-treat with Claire. Next year, we'll probably trick-or-treat in our neighborhood--but in some ways, we had the best of both worlds this year--a quick Halloween party with new friends and a long night of trick-or-treating with old friends.
