For Father's Day this year, we decided to get creative. We went to a local pottery place and painted mugs for their dad and grandfathers. Aunt Kate and Uncle Scott came by to assist (decorating...well...really much of anything isn't really a strength of mine) just in the nick of time. I'd been working on handprints, and Hannah began to take the idea of handprints to a whole new level. She was painting her arm, her face, and who knows what else she might have gone for if Uncle Scott hadn't arrived to distract her! In fact, he ended up helping her design a masterpiece of a mug that he got to keep as well!

Aunt Kate and Grandpa were going shopping, so even Grandpa stopped by to get into the action. As a result, the mugs weren't much of a surprise to anyone except Alan and maybe Grandad in the end. Moira came up with the design for her dad's mug all by herself. She wanted all of our family holding hands, and she wanted all parts of the mug to be painted different colors. It turned out fabulously, and Alan drinks out of Moira's mug all the time.

Not only did Moira make lots of mugs, but she made up her own original song to wish her Grandad a Happy Father's Day. It's pretty funny because we are helping her along a little bit, but most of it is truly Moira's creation. She has an amazing imagination.

On Father's Day, we went to my mom and dad's house for dinner. Alan and the girls had fun twirling in the living room. They love wrestling, tackling, jumping, drawing, and pretending with their dad. To give you an idea of how much fun they have, when it's time to go up to the playroom in our house, Hannah always shouts "How about upstairs party?!" It's an understatement, but Alan does an amazing job with our two little girls--they truly adore him.
Back to Father's Day itself, because they rarely sit still when playing with their dad, it was impossible to get a picture of him with the girls--so the twirling photos were the best I could do!

Thankfully, though, Uncle Scott and Aunt Kate were there. I know I say it often, but Scott is such an outstanding photographer. Check out the photos he was able to capture of the day!

Both are fascinated with Scott's camera, and I love the photo of Hannah attempting to look into the camera to take a photo.
Last but not least, Scott also managed to catch a picture of the girls giving Grandpa their card and mug. It's hard for me to put into words how fortunate I feel to have my dad in my life and in my children's lives. He is always there for us--whatever it is that we may need. What more could a daughter ask for?
Happy Belated Father's Day to all of the dads out there, but especially to my dad and to my wonderful husband.
