The Children's Museum Preschool decided to do a project on habitats. Zoo habitats, to be specific. The project involved three parts: visiting the Zoo as a family and observing the animals and their habitats; creating the habitat in the classroom; and visiting the preschool zoo habitat in support of Heifer International.
Moira was so much fun at the Zoo. We had an observation form to complete about the "forest habitat." She never failed to surprise me with her observations. I'm not sure how she knew that bats sleep during the day or maps on the signs show where the animals live in the world, but she did.

When we were looking at the tiger, Ms. Hosey came up and asked Moira what she saw in the tiger. Moira said "he's orange." Then, Ms. Hosey asked, "What animal does he remind you of?" Moira said, "A leopard." Ms. Hosey then said: "Hmm...I wonder what makes a tiger different from a leopard," and Moira, without missing a beat said: "Well, tigers have stripes and leopards have spots."
The "big brown bear," as Moira refers to him, was so interesting that day. He climbed up onto the tree branches and sat there for a little while. The children were completely enthralled.
After playing at the playground at the Zoo for a while, we finally headed home. We were glad to warm up inside of our house (early March was entirely too cold this year in Indiana).
A couple of weeks later, we gathered at Moira's classroom for family learning day, and Alan and Hannah joined us. Hannah had a blast for the first half of the morning, and then she and Alan had to disappear so she could enjoy the museum. But, we had a lot of fun creating the "Forests Habitat" for Moira's classroom.

I'll be back after all of the Easter blogs to share the story of the visiting the forest habitat in the preschool. I'm sure there will be some funny stories to share!
