Road Trip!

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we found ourselves planning for a family vacation that would span five states, 1371 miles, and 24 hours of driving time (broken up into 3 segments)...all with a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old! Needless to say, I was nervous, and Alan was dreading spending that much time in the car. But we more than survived...we truly had a good time. This is the first in a series of posts describing our adventures this summer to West Virginia and northern Michigan!

The first leg of the trip was to West Virginia because David Rogers, my cousin, was getting married, and he had asked Moira to be the flower girl in the wedding. You may recall that we traveled to West Virginia last summer for another Rogers wedding, and we were excited to make a return visit. Moira loves seeing all of the family, and it has essentially become a family reunion for my dad's siblings.

After six long hours in the car in the evening, we arrived at the hotel in the wee hours of the morning. Early the next morning, we hit the indoor pool straight away. To be honest, it was a bit cold--we spent most of our time in the nearby hot tub before heading Aunt Peggy's house.

Hotel swimming pools are the best!
My dad and two of his siblings, Kathy and Peggy, worked together to make us a lovely lunch. In the meantime, Moira was fascinated by a new little kitten in the household named Daisy Mae. Kari, my cousin, held Daisy Mae while Moira petted her and giggled when she tried to catch her tail. Check out the video!

After a nice lunch, we went out on the golf course to visit all of the guys who were playing golf. Moira loved the golf carts this year (she's been almost every year since she was born). She even had the chance to go for a "drive" with Meredith, Daniel's wife.

By far, though, the girls' favorite place to be this summer is in the pool! We spent a couple of days at the country club's outdoor pool, and the girls had a blast. Hannah is a water baby, and Moira has come a long way in feeling more comfortable in the water. It helped tremendously when Moira discovered the beauty of flotation devices! At first she called the raft her "boat," which I thought was very sweet.

More to come soon on all of the West Virginia festivities!
