Hannah Marie's baptism

So much has happened in the last month and a half! Not only did we celebrate Hannah's baptism, but we also captured some of Hannah's "firsts" (like eating rice cereal), Moira reading to Hannah, a trip to the apple orchard, and Moira's 3rd birthday (which happened to include a brief trip to Florida)! Hopefully, I will catch up on the blog in the next few days.

But, in the meantime, I want to focus on Hannah's baptism. September 10, 2011 was the big day (almost exactly 10 years after our wedding day). My cousins, Marty and Katie, came in from St. Louis with their son, Connor, and my aunts and uncle came in for the baptism as well. Marty, Katie, and Uncle Scott agreed to be Hannah's godparents. She is a fortunate little girl to have them in her life.

Hannah's baptismal gown deserves a special mention as well. It is fair to say that the gown is a family heirloom. My great-grandmother made it around the turn of the 20th century for her children to wear. Thus, this gown has been worn by four generations (my grandpa, mom, myself, and my girls). It is a gorgeous dress, and Hannah looked beautiful in it.

The day was really special, and the baptism itself was quite intimate. It was held in the chapel at Holy Spirit by Father Paul Koetter. Father Paul is a wonderful priest who really works hard to make every moment one spends in church relevant. So, it was no surprise to me when Father Paul lifted up Moira, who was a bit perplexed (and jealous), to explain how Hannah's baptism would work. It was a very meaningful ceremony to all of us.

After the baptism, we had a lovely dinner at my parents' house, and Hannah recovered from being a bit fussy earlier in the evening. She was part of a major photo shoot (as you'll see below)! Aunt Kate made a special cake for Hannah, and Connor and Moira had a great time playing together. All in all, it was a great day, and I feel so fortunate to have such wonderful family and friends in our life.
