Milestones are happening all around us! Moira had her first day of preschool on August 8th, and it was a very special day for all of us. We've enrolled her in the program at the local YMCA because she doesn't have to be 3 years old to attend. Next year, we may go for the Children's Museum's new preschool, but we'll see how this year goes first.
Anyway, we had to attend an orientation the week before, and we were very impressed with the program and the teachers. We both loved school as children, and we're hopeful that Moira will enjoy it as well. I have to admit that I was excited to go out and shop for Moira's school supplies.
All ready to go to school!
Everyone asked if I was sad to see her go to preschool, and the answer is, no! I am excited for her. She attends 3 days a week for about 3 hours, so it's not as though our baby girl is all grown up yet :)
It is amazing, though, because we have already noticed subtle changes in her. I am convinced she chit-chats more with us as a result of her preschool interactions, and the amount of artwork she is producing is very new to us too. It has also forced us to have much more of a schedule than we ever did before...which isn't all a bad thing.
Mrs. Horton after the first day is complete
When we ask Moira about her day, she tells us the following: "I cried when Daddy left." We can confirm that this is true, but she is just a bit dramatic because as soon as we are out of the room, she stops her crying. "I play with Samantha and Ruby." There are many more children in her class (about 12), but she tends to always talk about these two little girls. Very cute. And "I paint and sing twinkle, twinkle." Self-explanatory, right?
Lunchtime with all "the kids" as Moira refers to her classmates
The girls after we picked Moira up from her first day!
What was much more difficult for me was my return to work, which was a bit of a surprise to me, to be perfectly honest. Why, you may ask? Well, I really enjoy my work. So, I thought it would be relatively easy to get back into the swing of things. However, I was unprepared for how much I would miss Hannah. With Moira, I would come home at lunch, but it's not possible to do so with Hannah.
How I spent my time before heading back to work...
And she is so cute right now. She is a very content little baby. She can roll from front to back, and she smiles at me all of the time, though the sweetest moments are when she is just waking up and smiling. Her little feet stay very busy with amazingly strong kicks, and she is intrigued with her fingers and hands. She sucks her left thumb to soothe herself, and she has just started to laugh if we tickle her. Here is a video of us playing pat-a-cake together. More videos to come soon, I am sure!
I am still playing catch-up from all the photos we took over the holidays, and I have a few random ones that I want to share! Here they are: Moira's first official haircut. She was so good. I wasn't sure she would sit still, but she did. The stylist did a great job of keeping her entertained! Moira walking around in her "shoes." Moira is fascinated with shoes. She loves taking our shoes on and off. And she loves walking around in adult shoes. We went to the Eiteljorg on Martin Luther King day and Moira had fun exploring the Wild Wild West. You may recall that Moira's 2nd birthday party was pretty entertaining because Moira fell asleep in her high chair, and then she was completely overwhelmed by everyone singing Happy Birthday. Since then, we have had lots of family and friend birthdays, and she has mastered singing Happy Birthday. At this point, she sings Happy Birthday to just about anyone and anything--babies at a restaurant, the light, the birds......
Hannah, You, my darling baby girl, are growing up entirely too fast. By the time you were one, here’s what you were up to: On the Move Well, truth be told, you haven’t been that interested in moving. You’re quite content to reach both arms in the air and look imploringly at mama or dada to pick you up. By the time you were 5 months, you rolled over, and by the time you were 10 months, you finally decided to crawl. Since then, you’ve become a very quick little girl on your knees, and you’re just starting to consider standing up and walking on your own. One of the cutest things you do is crawl while holding onto a baby stroller—it is quite a feat! I predict you’ll be about 16 months old before you walk, and that is fine with me. What did you say? Hannah, you are a talker. At a year old you have a few words in your vocabulary. They include the traditional words like “mama” and “dada.” Your very first word, however, was “Mo-ra” in honor of your big sister,...
It's hard to believe Moira is already 5 weeks old (today)! Here 's a quick recap: October 14th, 9:32am, Moira Joan Mackintosh came into the world. She was a healthy 7 lb, 14 oz, and 20.5 inches long. My labor was fast, but delivery was slower than I would have liked. On the whole, neither Moira nor I can complain . October 16th, we came home. I discovered after a couple of sleepless nights that Moira would only sleep for about 15 minutes in her bassinet. She preferred sleeping on someone or sleeping in her little swing. The first few weeks went by in a complete blur. We were all trying to get used to a new kind of normal. Moira and I spent a lot of time trying to figure out her preferences for eating and sleeping. Alan spent a lot of time trying to help his girls get as comfy as possible. We've had fun discovering the little things about Moira. She has dimples and so much dark hair. She has the cutest high-pitched hiccups. She loves it when her Dad holds her and paces with...
