The Grattons

We saw lots of family during our time in Devon, and I'll do a separate blog on most of our family visits later. But visiting Colin and Helen (Alan's Uncle and Aunt) at their house (called the Grattons) was a particularly memorable visit because not only was it a beautiful day, but they have a lot of land and farm animals nearby...perfect for children.

They have a horse, Bandit; a dog, Bertie; a cat (don't know the name); and a chicken. They also have cows and sheep living nearby on their land. And they have an amazing view of the water in the distance.

Colin and Helen have two granddaughters--Laura, who is about a year older than Moira, and Pippa, who is just a month old. Moira had a fabulous time playing with Laura in the fields, while we had a lovely time catching up with all of the family. One of the funniest moments (so I hear as I was not there to witness) came when Moira went to look at the cows with Laura. The girls were in pretty close proximity to the cows when one of them decided to take a poo. And cows take big poos. The look of wonder and surprise on the girls' faces was apparently priceless. If you ask Moira what sound a cow makes now, she won't say "moo," she'll say, "they poop!"

It was a really gorgeous day, and Helen and Colin were wonderful hosts. We only wished we had more time to visit with the family! We'll go back in a few years, no doubt, and Hannah and Pippa (pictured below with Colin) will be running around the fields by then!
