Road Trip!

When Moira was born, I am certain I didn’t leave the house much in the first two months. But right around 8 weeks, I took Moira to Virginia to visit family. This time, we took Hannah to West Virginia for the first in what promises to be a series of Rogers family weddings. Daniel Rogers (cousin on my dad’s side) married Meredith Hill over Father’s Day weekend, and Hannah attended her first wedding and first large-scale family reunion.

Fortunately, before the festivities got underway in earnest, we had some down time at the hotel and at the Country Club (the Rogers family are avid golfers). Moira had a blast swimming (check out the video below), and Hannah took her first ride in a golf cart (Moira took a harrowing ride with Grandma and Aunt Jean the year before!).

We had so much fun driving around the golf course where Daniel and his friends were playing. Moira loved riding (and steering) with Grandpa, and Hannah likes any sort of motion at the moment. I have to say that Alan enjoyed puttering around in the golf course too.

The first evening in West Virginia also happened to be June 16, which is both my brother and aunt’s birthday. We celebrated at a nice local Mexican restaurant, and that is where Moira was first reunited with her cousins. It was the beginning of a beautiful weekend of lots of first and second cousins ages 2-10 playing with each other. Moira seemed to have a special affinity for her eldest cousin, Emma, but she played well with all the other children as well. I love these photos of the kids at the Mexican restaurant. And, of course, I couldn't resist showing the forced photo of my brother and aunt for their birthday (David's expression totally reminds me of the American Gothic painting). They were good sports! A big thank you goes out to Aunt Peggy for organizing everything--including the delivery of really tasty cupcakes!

Another entry about the wedding will follow shortly. Suffice it to say, the 6-hour drive was well worth it. Moira still talks about her "road trip to West Virginia" where she stayed in a "hotel," "ate pancakes," "went swimming," and "danced at the party with the princess." Aah...it's all about the simple things in life.
