A Christmas Visit
Over the weekend we went to St. Louis to visit my uncle and his family. My Uncle Jeff is also my godfather, and he is one of those quiet guys with a wicked sense of humor who keeps you in line without you even realizing it. Well, in June he was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer, and he has been putting up a good fight ever since. We were well overdue for a visit, and I'm so glad that we had the opportunity to see him and everyone else.
We spent the night with my mom's cousin and his wife--Norm and Ann Thomas. They have a granddaughter who is just about the same age as Moira, and her name is Maddie. Maddie came over to play on Saturday morning, and she and Moira had a lot of fun together.
Once we arrived at the hospital to see my uncle, Moira was particularly excited about seeing Baby Connor and Dobber. Baby Connor is my godchild, and my cousin Marty's new little 7-month-old. Dobber is their dog. I love it that Moira associates Dobber with Connor because she gets so excited about Connor, but she truly has a love-hate relationship with their little dog. He has a piercing bark, and if he does bark, she bursts into tears...yet she can't stop talking about him. Very funny. She was pretty good with Connor. She's not really very gentle with babies, but she did go up to him a few times and said "Tickle, tickle," which was very cute. He reminds me a lot of the pictures of my cousin when he was little, and it's so much fun to watch Marty be a dad--he is a natural. In fact, another great moment was Marty playing with this silly balloon and Moira. He kept on knocking it around the room until he knocked it right off the anchor and it floated up a very high ceiling. Moira's look of horror was priceless.
Everyone out there who reads this little blog--please say a prayer for my uncle and his family. They are all doing the very best they can, but it is a very difficult time for them...and for us...we love the Brown family very much.
