Moira's First 1st Birthday Party
As I mentioned earlier, Moira's First 1st Birthday Party happened on Saturday, October 11th. Originally, it was just supposed to be Moira, Alan, myself, Kate, Scott, and my parents. But a couple of weeks ago, I learned that our family from West Virginia (my dad's sister, husband, and entire family--4 sons and a daughter) was coming to visit. So, Moira was fortunate to have a lot of doting adults celebrating with her.

She was totally bewildered by the experience of a full room of adults singing Happy Birthday to her. She had no idea what to make of all of us, and it shows in the video (which I hope to upload soon). She was equally intriqued by her bumblebee cake (made by my sister and her friend along with a beautiful butterfly cake). She squished all the icing and cake together for a few minutes before finally taking a bite. We thought it was so funny that she ended up with a gray beard of icing--Kate was a little concerned that we should have picked more girly colors for her cake, but I thought it was great. In the end, Moira warmed up to the crowd and we finally recorded her happy dance successfully.

After the cake, we took a break (the West Virginia crew left to go watch college football). But then more family arrived and we moved into presents gear. Moira was most intrigued by the tissue paper and boxes. The toys were definitely secondary, which probably does not come as a surprise to others who have children. Nonetheless, we appreciated everyone getting together with us at the last minute to celebrate Moira's first year! She had a great time, and so did we.
